JAMMU, Apr 22: Proposals of Jammu Smart City Project for TalabTillo were prepared and executed so haphazardly, and due to incompetency of some technical officers several works under the Project in TalabTillo area remain stalled.
This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and former JMC councillor, Sanjay Kumar Baru during his day long tour at main TalabTillo in JMC Ward-40 & 41.
Accompanied by BJP Shakti Kendra in charge Bubesh Sharma, Jatin Sethi, Onkar Verma and local BJP leaders, Baru toured the various locations to inspect the leftover work of a number of drains, footpath, installation of street lights and shifting of poles at main road TalabTillo.
Speaking to the media persons, Baru said that four years back, various works with the estimated cost of Rs 20 crore from Patta Chungi to Canal Head were inaugurated by him as corporator under “Jammu Smart City” in presence of then CE, JSCP, Shyam Lal Kapoor at Patta Chungi Chowk. However, despite regular monitoring of this project and appeals to concerned officers, the work on this project remained incomplete till date.
He further added that under this Project, the objective was to widen the main TalabTillo road and construct new footpaths alongside it. Additionally, the plan entailed replacing the existing electricity poles along the main road with new ones and installing streetlights on them. He stated that, except footpaths, even the work of laying slabs over the drainage ditches remains incomplete in several areas; consequently, there are reports of falling of many locals into the drains every now and then. In numerous locations, electricity poles still stand right in the middle of the road, despite the road have already been blacktopped. Furthermore, the nuts and bolts intended for mounting the new poles on the footpaths have been installed which is a major threat to human life as poles have yet to be erected. Public is facing big difficulties and even get injured while walking on.
He warned that if there exists any further delay in completion of works, then people will stage a sit-in protest along with shopkeepers and local residents at TalabTillo and the responsibility for this will lie with the Smart City Project officials.
