Jaitley led committee holds meeting with Union leaders

NEW DELHI, July 19: Govt of India’s Inter-Ministerial Committee headed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today held a detailed meeting with the representatives of various Central Trade Unions where each of their major demands was discussed threadbare.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, Bandaru Dattatreya, Dharmendra Pradhan and Piyush Goyal were among the other Union Ministers who attended the meeting as members of the Inter- Ministerial Committee.
Among the various Central Trade Unions whose representatives participated included Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Indian National Trade Union Congress, All India Trade Union Congress, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, All India Trade Union Centre, Trade Union Coordination Centre, SEWA, All India Central Council of Trade Unions, Labour Progressive Federation, United Trades Union Congress and National Front of Indian Trade Unions.
Responding to the observations made by the representatives of the various Central Trade Unions of India and the Charter of Demands tabled by them, Arun Jaitley said, government is inclined to address the various issues raised by the Central Trade Unions in a coordinative way because the relationship between the government and the trade unions should not be seen as an adversarial relationship. He said, the government looks at the issues raised by the trade unions with an open mind and is ready to take each of the issues one by one.
Jaitley said, particularly two kinds of issues have emerged. Some are issues of economical nature, while others are related to trade unions. There are also some issues put forward by union leaders which carry some logic, he said and went on to give the example of the demand for minimum wage enhancement, implementation of social security schemes and implementing the service conditions of the contractual labourers.
Jaitley said, government will carry forward the process of regular dialogue with the union leaders in order to identify issues which are doable as well as issues where there is some difficulty but would try to find out means to sort out.
Bandaru Dattatreya in his capacity as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment has made the opening remarks while Dr. Jitendra Singh, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan presented their points of view at the meeting.
At the conclusion of meeting, the representatives of various trade unions expressed their satisfaction and said that this was for the first time that they had got the opportunity to hold such a meeting with the government which had proved to be extremely fruitful and positive.
