Irate people protest against power & water crisis, block road

JAMMU, July 6: Irate residents of Roop Nagar, Durga Nagar, Laxmi Puram Chinore and adjoining localities held a strong protest demonstration and blocked Bantalab-Jammu road for hours together in protest against the power and water crisis in the area.
The protest was led by Corportors Kapil Chib and Rekha Manhas besides the large number of activists of Durga Nagar Welfare Committee led by Roshan Lal Raina and Ravinder Bakshi also participated along with a large number of activists of adjoining areas.
They accused the PDD authorities of their total failure in maintaining power supply in the area due to which people have suffered a lot in this hot and humid temperature. The protestors said that despite collecting hefty fee from consumers in these localities the PDD has failed to ensure proper supply of electricity which remains off for hours together or often plays hide and seek. They also alleged that the people of these localities were facing the water scarcity as well and the concerned authorities have failed to solve the same despite repeated pleas.
Protestors raised slogans against the PDD authorities and warned them that in case they failed to sort out the issue they will launch a forceful agitation against the Department. Later SHO Domana, Mahesh Sharma rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors. They organised a meeting of their leaders including Corporator Kapil Chib, RM L Raina, P N Raina , Sanjay Saraf, Sanjay Ganjoo and Satish Kissu. SDM North Pawan Kotwal and PHE and PDD officers who assured them that the issue will be sorted out soon. On the assurance people lifted the road blockade and traffic was allowed to ply smoothly.
Meanwhile, All Displaced Kashmiri United Front (ADKUF) has sought immediate intervention of LG in settling power and water crisis in Durga Nagar and adjoining areas. The Front which met here today under the chairmanship of D N Kissu said the area is facing 16 to 20 hour power cut continuously due to some snag caused by hail storm.
P L Zuthsi president, Prof G L Koul, its chief advisor, P N Raina general secretary, B N Bhat , C L Zuthsi, Satish Kissu, M L Koul, N N Koul and P L Razdan also addressed the meeting.
