JAMMU, Feb 5: Jammu chapter of IPTA (Indian Peoples Theatre Association), released Parveen Kesar’s anthology of Dogri short stories ‘Chitta Kallar’, in a function held at the Gian Chand Memorial Hall, University of Jammu, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, MLA and Secretary, State Committee, Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that late Parveen Kesar, with whom he had more than 20 years of Association, was an embodiment of the spirit of progressivism right from his student days. An activist dedicated to the cause of common man, he lived his ideology through his public service as well as literary creations which draw attention to crucial issues of hunger, poverty, inequality, exploitation.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Director Kishtwar Campus, University of Jammu (JU), who presided over the function, in his address praised the literary merits of the stories by Parveen Kesar and said that the book is a significant addition to modern Dogri literature.
Deepak Kumar, noted theatre personality, threw light on Parveen Kesar’s lifelong commitment to theater as tool of social change. Dr. Sushma Rani presented a detailed paper on “Chita Kallar”.
Shiv Dev Singh Shusheel, well known Dogri writer, poet, who conducted the program held in collaboration with Rasa Javeedani Memorial Literary Society, said that Parveen Kesar was the founder of IPTA’s Chapter in Jammu and performed many stage play and nukkad nataks on themes revolving around socially relevant themes.
The presidium was also shared by Nirmal Kesar, wife of Parveen Kesar who took initiative to publish the short stories of her late husband. On the occasion, Parveen Kesars’ younger sister Prof. Archana Kesar and brother Raman Kesar were also present. Vijay Malla, President of IPTA, presented the vote of thanks. The book release function was attended by large number JU scholars, students, faculty members, theater artists and members of civil society.
