JAMMU, May 26: Panic gripped the busy Mini Market, near Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar area here this evening after suspected gangsters, including the main accused in the recent Satwari gang clash case, allegedly opened fire at a joint police team and escaped from the spot following a brief exchange of fire.

Official sources said a joint naka was laid by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police near Green Belt Park after inputs were received about the movement of Happy Choudhary alias Gugli, the prime accused in the recent attack on two brothers at Haripur, Phallain Mandal area.

They said as a Baleno car carrying 3-4 suspected gang members reached the naka point, the occupants allegedly opened fire at the police party after noticing the naka and also rammed their vehicle into a police vehicle in an attempt to escape.
The police party retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire, official sources said.
However, the accused managed to flee from the area, triggering panic among local residents and shopkeepers.
Official sources said soon after the incident, the entire area was secured and additional police reinforcement was rushed to launch an extensive search operation in and around Gandhi Nagar to track down the accused.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and legal action is being initiated against the accused persons, they said.
They wre not immediately sure about the type of weapon used by the suspected gangsters.
Pertinently, three accused – Rajinder Kumar alias Babbu, Raghuvir and Shivam Choudhary – were arrested on May 24 in connection with the assault on two brothers, Paras Sharma and Rishu Sharma of Sure Chak, Mandal, who were attacked on May 23 at Haripur, Phallain Mandal area by members of the Gugli gang led by Happy Choudhary alias Gugli. Police had also seized a pistol allegedly used in the crime.
However, the main accused, Happy Choudhary alias Gugli, had managed to escape along with some associates and had been evading arrest since then before allegedly being spotted today in Gandhi Nagar.
