IPL bookies’ racket busted

JAMMU, Apr 26:  Police today busted a racket of bookies engaged in betting on IPL7 with links in Jammu, Punjab and New Delhi and recovered 15 mobile telephone and 25 SIM cards from their possession in RS Pura. Police have arrested four bookies and launched a search for their four kingpins, who were operating from Jammu and Punjab.
Police said Rs 50,000 cash has so far been recovered from the bookies. They were regularly changing their SIM cards to dodge police.
A police party from RS Pura police station headed by SHO Jaipal Sharma raided a den of the bookies this afternoon and arrested four of them along with 15 mobile telephones and 25 SIM cards when they were placing bets on today’s IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
The arrested bookies have been identified as Ganesh Kumar son of Sain Dass R/o Shiv Nagar, RS Pura, Parveen Kumar son of Ram Prakash R/o Ward No. 8, RS Pura, Anil Kumar son of Yashpal R/o Ward No. 9, RS Pura and Anil Kumar son of Janak Raj R/o Ward 6, RS Pura.
Police said Neetu Jamwal alias Sonu Jamwal of Jammu, Lovely Bhajji of Punjab, Vijay Kumar of Punjab and Rinku Kumar of Jammu were main kingpin in the racket and all of them were in touch with the arrested bookies. Police said the absconders are being named in the FIR and efforts would be made to arrest them.
A case has been registered against the accused at RS Pura police station for further investigations.
