POONCH, Aug 21: Rajpura bridge constructed over Loran river was today thrown open for the people of the area in a simple function held at Mandi.
Dr Shehnaz Ganai, MLC was the chief guest on the occasion.  It was a long pending demand of the public of five Panchayats of Mandi, who had to travel five to six kilometers to reach Mandi, which by the completion of this bridge would be a matter of just one kilometer.
This bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs  and will  facilitate the general public especially the patients and students of the area.
Dr Ganai pointed out that the infrastructure building has not been given priority over the years.
She said that key to economic development of the area lies in the road network as it  gives boost to the economic development of the area. District Poonch being the border and the remote part of the state has seen less investment over the years in infrastructure like electricity, roads, water systems and telecommunications.
Dr Ganai said that roads are the foundations of modern economies as they have a huge multiplier effect on economy. When we construct a road through a backward area, we bring them close to employment options, markets and better healthcare. Infrastructure building is the key to wiping poverty, Dr Ganai said.
The MLC urged upon  the Government to focus on the investment in infrastructure building, as it will not only generate employment directly through construction and operations, but will also create an opportunity for development for industrial setup in the area.
Later, she addressed a meeting at Panchayat Ghar Degwar Maldiyana in Poonch. The people thanked the MLC for installing hand pump in the area and demanded construction of Jeep road from main road Degwar to Pothi Noorkote. She announced Rs 20  lakhs  from her CDF for the construction of the said road.
