JAMMU, Mar 29: While criticizing present political parties for promoting community based reservation for their vote bank politics, India Against Reservation (J&K Unit) and Arakshan Virodhi Manch today resolved to launch country-wide movement against present `quota’ system and said that it should be on the economic condition of the families from all the communities.
Convenor Arakshan Virodhi Manch (AVM) Ram Paul Seth and president India Against Reservation (IAR), Sat Paul Sharma addressing joint press conference here today said that members of these two bodies held meetings with the Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha Jammu, Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha , Central Mahajan Sabha, Dehati Brahaman Sabha Jammu region and several other Sabhas. All these bodies have extended their full support for the movement being launched in near future for securing justice, liberty and equality for all the sections of society irrespective of their caste, creed and colour.
The issue was also discussed with the retail shopkeepers/ traders and students from the general categories who have shown keen interest to initiate a collective struggle and force the Government/ law makers to go for reforms and make amendment in the existing discriminatory laws. They pointed out that Article 15, 16 and 17 of the Constitution was being misused by the Indian political parties and the time has come to say good bye to the old reservation which was initially accorded for just ten years to the SCs and other down trodden communities. It was extended by another ten years but now the political parties have started exploiting it for the vote bank depriving other poorest of the poor of the other communities from benefits of reservation quota. They said Reservation should be on the basis of economic condition not on the community/ caste basis. They strongly opposed the policy and appealed the people from other communities to get united for getting justice.
Manch and IAR demanded implementation of very practical recommendations made by the Standing Committee of the Parliament for ensuring the benefits of reservation to the needy and deserving and special support measures for the people who are poorest among the poor. Both bodies stressed for abolition of caste and religion based quota as it is black blot on the fair name of Indian democracy.
