Jammu Police solves theft cases within fortnight

JAMMU, Mar 29: Exhibiting professionalism, the Jammu Police solved two major theft cases in the city within a fortnight and recovered the stolen cash as well jewellery worth lakhs besides arresting the accused.
In both the cases, the accused turned out to be domestic help and one of them was a woman.
Giving information in this regard to media persons while handing over the stolen cash and jewellery to their original holders, here today, Incharge SSP Jammu Rajeshwar Singh said that the recovered items included Gold worth Rs 12.5 lakh and cash of Rs 3.4 lakh.
He said that gold ornaments of approximately 27.3 Tolas, including chains, bangles, ear rings etc besides cash of Rs 1, 79000 were stolen from Dr Ramesh Birpuri’s house at Ekta Vihar Gangyal on March 16, 2013. “During the course of investigation, police arrested the accused by tracing call details of Dr Birpuri’s stolen mobile,” the SSP said.
All the stolen items were recovered from house of the accused, identified as Sandeep Kumar of Ward number 11, who had earlier worked as domestic help at the residence of Dr Birpuri and managed a duplicate key of the locker.
In other case, one Satyapal Singh Manhas lodged a complaint at Police Station Satwari that cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 6 lakh were stolen from his house at Babliana on March 21, 2013. Investigation of the case was entrusted to PSI Sandeep Charak under the direct supervision of SHO Satwari Bishnesh Kumar who arrested the accused Poli Devi, wife of Sarfa Ram of Babliana and effected the recoveries, which included gold chains, rings, ear rings, etc and cash amounting to Rs 1,61160.
Poli was working as domestic help at the house of Satyapal Singh and taking advantage of absence of the owner, she had managed the theft, said Rajeshwar Singh.
All the recovered items were handed back to their original holders today in the presence of media persons.
On the occasion, the Incharge SSP once again appealed people to inform concerned police station before hiring a domestic help or having a tenant in their house so that crimes, particularly thefts, may be avoided.
