Srinagar, Jan 14: The J&K Panchayat Raj Movement (JKPRM) today demanded an increase in the honorarium of the Panchs and Sarpanchs along with the newly elected DDC and BDC members.
Addressing a press conference here, President of the JKPRM Ghulam Hassan said that they are thankful to the Prime Minister as well as the LG’s administration along with the people who made the last tier of the J&K Panchayat Raj a success.
He said that there is also a need for notifying the power of the BDC as well as DDC so that there is no tussle whenever the MLAs are elected in the future.
The representatives also demanded the creation of District Development Commission in every district which will entirely take care of the panchayat grid.
“We wanted to have a separate Financial Commission for the PRIs as well as a separate Development Board, these two demands have been met, but one thing has not been addressed so far is the formation of separate District Development Commission in every district which will take care of the panchayat so that there is no intervention,” he said.
They also appealed the Government to make sure that the newly elected DDC members participate in the January 26 events in the districts.
“January 26 is around the corner and in this regard, there is a Government order directing the BDCs to attend the functions in the respective blocks on the day, we request the Government to make it mandatory for the newly elected DDC members as well,” he said.
He also demanded an early release of funds amounting Rs 25 lakh to the concerned BDCs so that the developmental works are carried out.
The representative of JKPRM also demanded early revocation of e-tendering ordered by the government to carry out the developmental works in the villages.
“We are against the e-tendering as rural development programs aim to employ the locals, if there is e-tendering, the locals won’t be able to benefit from such works. We have several educated people; the order should be rolled back immediately,” he demanded.
