JAMMU, Jan 10: Indigenous Medicines Organization (IMO) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr KK Gandotra.
During the meeting, the members demanded creation of separate AYUSH Ministry in the State as per the pattern of Centre Government of India as well as in the neighbouring States of J&K for the development of AYUSH in the State and also in interest of the people.
General Secretary Dr Mahesh Sharma said that AYUSH Department has been given step motherly treatment. After 1982 not even a single post has been created by the Government. Despite timely submission of the vacancies to the Administrative Department by the Directorate of ISM time to time, he added.
In 1982, 45 Ayurvedic dispensaries were created single handed i.e. only 45 medical officers (ISM) appointed in these dispensaries but till date not even single post has been created in these dispensaries, he stated.
He further disclosed that last year Government created 87 ISM dispensaries in J&K State but not even a single post have been created in these dispensaries also. AYUSH units have been created in District Hospital but no posts have been created. All these units were run on the basis of internal arrangement, he said.
Now position is that Government has closed all internal arrangements units in J&K. Who is responsible for that? Government Medical Ayurvedic and Unani colleges are functional in the J&K till date though these colleges have been funded by Central Government, he added.
“So many such things show apathy and discrimination with AYUSH Department. So we demanded independent Ministry for AYUSH Department in the J&K State in the interest of the people of J&K as well as in the interest of AYUSH Department, so that the AYUSH Department can be flourished and the people of J&k State can be benefited”, Dr Sharma stated.
