Srinagar, July 20: A huge quantity of expired drugs were today found dumped on the terrace of Ancillary Medical Training College (ANMT) in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district here.
The members of Traders Federation Bandipora raided the building after receiving information regarding the presence of drugs in the school as the same were allegedly being denied to patients in the hospital. The supply belongs to J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL)
“We visited the place and found a variety of drugs openly in the second floor of ANMT School,” they said.
Iron tablets, Calcium Tablets and other important medicines which are costlier in markets were also recovered. “There were 10 different categories of medicines which were found,” said Shamshad Ahmad, President Bandipora Traders Federation.
“It should have been given to patients but it is unfortunate to see the medicines being dumped while in DH Bandipora doctors force patients to buy the same drugs from open market”, he said.
Earlier, medicines worth lakhs of rupees belonging to Government supply were recovered from a local medical shop in Bandipora.
Local traders said that it was a big scam and the culprits should be exposed and booked.
The locals expressed shock over the issue, saying that the people are being deprived of the medicines while as the officials in the department are resorting to such unfortunate actions and selling the drugs illegally in open market.
However, an official in Bandipora said that there was a bulk quantity of medicine supply in 2016-17 and whole quantity could not be supplied to the patients and hence the District Health authorities stored the expired medicine in ANMT school instead of returning it to the JKMSCL as per norms.
Chief Medical Officer Bandipora has constituted a team of experts who have been tasked look into the matter.
