Public projects abandoned, authorities in slumber: Ex-MLA

MENDHAR, July 20: Senior PDP leader and former minister Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan castigated the State Administration led by Governor Satya Pal Malik and his Advisors for failing to provide funds for completion of bridges, roads and building projects started during his tenure as MLA.
In a press statement, Khan said the Government also failed to complete the projects for which funds are available with contractors like PMGSY roads, PHCs and many more sectors of public benefits like PDD and PHE etc.
“The Government buildings which I started in my tenure as MLA such as Mini Secretariat is still in the same position and no further funds were released for the same. Emergency Block of SDH Mendhar which requires early completion and dire need of funds, has also been languishing. The hospital is short of beds and in case of Pakistani firing or major accident, the hospital authorities may face problem,” he said.
Khan said people’s of Mankote, Balakote and Mendhar are crying for roads under PWD sector as these roads have totally become headache for commuters and travellers facing hard time to reach the destination. The R&B officials are giving excuses of shortage of funds in case public approaches for repair or blacktopping. Many projects under PWD are still awaiting completion and no one from administration showed seriousness to get the funds released.
Rafiq Khan said that Commissioner secretary who was made incharge of Poonch Rajouri recently by the Governor must hold public meetings at major towns and even tehsil and block level to get feed back about public issues.
He appealed the Governor to specially intervene in the development projects of  Border area of Poonch which are abandoned for years. Necessary funds be released for these projects. He said people of this hilly area are still facing scarcity of drinking water and proper power supply be ensured to them.
Moreover, in recent initiative taken by the Government in a program ‘Back to village Program’ in which public issues are noticed by the officers, are needed to be taken on board to strengthen the grass root level of Panchayats and winning the  public confidence, Khan added.
