H&UDD Comm Secy reviews preparations for Swachhta Survekshan 2025

JAMMU, Feb 11: Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, chaired a high-level meeting at the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Conference Hall to review the preparations for Swachhta Survekshan 2025.
During the meeting, Kaur emphasized the importance of improving sanitation, waste management, and citizen participation to improve rankings in the national cleanliness survey.
She urged authorities to adopt innovative solutions for maintaining cleanliness and to actively involve local communities.
Dr Devansh Yadav, JMC Commissioner, highlighted the steps already taken by urban bodies to enhance sanitation infrastructure and raise public awareness.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to create cleaner and more sustainable urban environments across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting also reviewed the success of the ‘Swachhtantra’ campaign, which was launched before Republic Day by the Housing and Urban Development Department.
During the campaign, over 1032 sanitation activities were carried out, involving over 3, 50, 000 citizens.
In addition to this, 188 garbage points were cleared, and 52 water bodies were cleaned as part of the campaign with more than 2, 21, 000 citizens taking a pledge for sustained cleanliness and sanitation.
Further, a painting competition on the theme “Importance of Waste Segregation” was organized for 80 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Jammu and Kashmir. The competition saw 1040 participants, with Aqsa from Doda, Sana Firdous from Shopian, and Raksha Gurung from Jammu winning the top three prizes.
They will receive cash awards of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000, respectively. Consolation prizes were also given to three participants.
Kaur called for stronger monitoring mechanisms, increased public participation, and enhanced waste management strategies to ensure significant improvement in Jammu and Kashmir’s performance in Swachhta Survekshan 2025.
Besides Dr Devansh Yadav, the meeting was attended by Manisha Sarin, Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, Abdul Star, Joint Commissioner (H&S), Dr Vinod Kumar Sharma, Health Officer JMC, and other officials from JMC and ULBs.
Executive Officers from Municipal Councils and Committees across Jammu and Kashmir participated via video conferencing.
