JAMMU, Feb 11: All J&K Transport Welfare Association under the chairmanship of Karan Singh Wazir took up long pending issues of the transporters with the Transport Minister Satish Sharma here today.
The transporters were given a patient hearing by Minister who was accompanied by Secretary Transport Niraj Kumar. During the meeting Wazir (Chairman AJKTWA) shared memorandum which included long pending demands and burning issues of the transporters.
The main issue was framing a transport policy for the Transport sector. They said it was the demand also projected under the leadership of former Chairman Late TS Wazir.
The emphasis was also laid on the current Smart City projects of e-buses and e- autorikshaws which had no regulations or operational time-table setup. The transport running under the earlier setup came to a halt, thus the transporters raised their grievances regarding the time-table and route setups for the e-buses for which the Transport Minister gave assurance.
Wazir also raised the issue of non-revisions of fares which have not been revised since 2021 and the pendency of fare hike has caused the transporters financial crunch as their expenses have sky-rocketed and the transporters are bearing the financial brunt.
The Transport Secretary took notice of the same and assured that the rate revision of the fares will be immediately considered during the financial budget. Wazir also raised the alarming condition of the different bus-stands and parking areas especially, warehouse where the infrastructure is in dilapidated condition and has not been upgraded for so many years, which lacks the required necessities for the drivers and cleaners such as washroom and resting rooms.
Pending payments of the transporters including the Viksit Bharat rallies expenses list were provided to the Transport Minister and the Transport Secretary gave assurance to have the payments delivered to the transporters before March 31.
