‘Horizon Series’ of ICCR showcasing special Dogri Lok Sangeet

JAMMU, Dec 28: Under the “Horizon Series” Programme, the ICCR is going to organize an amazing performance of local flavour “Dogri Lok Sangeet” by renowned Asha Kesar & Group tomorrow at Rich Harvest School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana.
N K Shil, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Jammu, a Cultural Wing of Ministry of External Affairs said that ICCR as part of its various cultural activities organizes cultural programmes every month by the cultural groups in this region under its programme of “Horizon Series” and gives exposure to the young upcoming, talented budding local artists.
So far such programmes were usually held within Jammu city. For the first time, ICCR is taking such programmes outside the city limits of Jammu to rural areas to help to provide an opportunity to common citizens to watch live programme in their vicinity, bond with each other, bring togetherness, to promote local art and culture as well as to provide an opportunity to local artist to showcase their talent.
The prime objective of ICCR is to establish, revive and develop the cultural relations, harmony and mutual understanding among diverse sections of the society and between India and other countries.
Among many other things, it is also assigned with the responsibility of administrating and granting of scholarship to foreign students for learning Indian dance and music, for exchanging of exhibitions, organizing and participation in international conferences, seminars and participating in major cultural festivals of India abroad, exchanging of groups of performing artistes.
ICCR also has its cultural centers active in abroad. Several initiatives are undertaken to enhance cultural and academic activity and relations especially with neibouring countries during the last 4 years, Shil said.
