SRINAGAR, Mar 2: High Court today directed the State Government to inform the court about steps taken till date to tackle swine flu in the Valley.
The Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the authorities to inform the court as to what measures have been taken for treating swine flu patients.
“Respondents shall inform the court as to what steps have been taken till date for treating patients who suffer from the aforesaid disease and what is the paraphernalia in place to tackle the afore said disease”, HC said.
Court after hearing counsel issued notice to Chief Secretary of the State, Director SKIMS, Director Health Services and Directed School Education for filing response by or before next date of hearing of the matter. Court also issued notice to Advocate General of the State.
Court made Union Ministry of Health party in the PIL and issued notice to them which was accepted the union counsel Showkat Makroo in the open court. The PIL on swine flu was filed by Advocate Ajaz Qadri.
“The issue involved in the petition is of great public importance. It is deemed necessary to implead Ministry of Health GoI as party respondent in this petition”, reads the HC order.
Court while cautioning the authorities for precautionary measures so that the disease does not harm further human lives, observed: “Respondent-State, who is custodian of rights of people is duty bound to take all preventive measures to ensure that the H1N1 influenza does not cause further damage to human lives”.
The petitioner in the petition states that the Government has failed to take appropriate steps for controlling the disease in the Valley as the Health Department has not kept any special team to observe the Flu (H1N1) patients whosoever having this infection.
