POONCH, Mar 2: District Police Poonch today organized a symposium under Civic Action Programme at Government Degree College auditorium on the topic “Role of youth in eradicating drug menace”.
Large number of students from various educational institutions participated in the symposium.
Nine students drawn from Degree College and other educational institutions spoke during the symposium.
Roopam Vir Singh of Christ School Poonch and Mohd Hassan of Zia-Ul-Uloom Poonch bagged first and second prizes respectively, while Saika Shrief Khan of Government Degree College Poonch got third prize.
Certificates and cash prizes were distributed among the first three positioners on the basis of their presentation judged by a panel of jury. All the participants were also given certificate of participation.
S Tejinder Singh, Principal Govt Degree College Poonch was chief guest on the occasion.
SSP Poonch, S. Jatinder Singh Johar while speaking on the occasion said that youth are the backbone of the nation and they are real ambassadors of peace, communal harmony and national integration. He exhorted upon the students to act as torch bearers against social evil of consumption of narcotic drugs, liquor, cigarette smoking, psychotropic substances etc among the society.
He asked the students to impress upon their relatives, friends etc. to avoid use of drugs and live simple and healthy life and become good citizens to contribute towards betterment of society.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were ASP Poonch, Amit Gupta; DySP DAR, Khalid Amin; DySP Operations Sheezan Bhatt; Prof Musharat Hussain; Prof Jasbir Singh; Retired Principal G L Sharma; Pardhan Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Satish Sasan; Principal Zia-Ul-Uloom Molana Wahid Bandey; Advocate Iftikar Ahmed Bazmi; President All India Sikh Student Federation, S Harcharan Singh Khalsa and Shambhu Nath Khajuria.
