SRINAGAR, Mar 17: High Court today directed the police to trace a missing woman, who was kidnapped on her way to Kashmir, within four weeks after they have failed to find her since August last year.
A Single Bench of the court comprising Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the Inspector General of Police, Jammu, to do needful within four weeks, failing which the IGP shall remain present in person on next date of hearing to explain the failure in tracing out the wife of the petitioner.
Mujaiser Ahmad Khan, husband of the missing woman, Safia, has filed a petition before the High Court alleging that his wife has been forcibly kidnapped by some unscrupulous elements, including Gurmeet Singh and Karan Singh of Kathua district, while they were traveling towards Kashmir in August last year.
Expressing disappointment over the investigation by the police, the court said: “It pains me to notice that no effective progress has been made in the case and investigation of the case appears to be heading at snail’s pace, if at all it is moving.”
The bench said the State is under Constitutional obligation to protect the life and property of its subjects, therefore, it is expected of the police that due diligence given to the cause so that the safety and recovery of the missing woman is ensured.
