SRINAGAR, May 30: Minister for Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri today called for concerted efforts to make the Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture Produce Marketing & Processing Corporation (JKHPMC) vibrant and commercially successful.
To improve the functioning of the Corporation, the Minister today chaired a high level meeting of officers here. Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production, Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari, Director Horticulture (Planning & Marketing), Director Planning Agriculture Production, Managing Director JKHPMC and other senior officers attended the meeting.
During detailed discussions, the Minister emphasised on adopting innovative measures to revive the overall functioning of the Corporation and turning it into a profit making Organisation.
Mr Veeri called for identifying new areas of business activities and asked the Corporation functionaries to furnish a comprehensive proposal for the revival of sick and abandoned units to the Government for appropriate action. He also underscored the need for promoting Corporation products on modern lines, adding that in the era of competitive markets, the Corporation cannot lag behind in such a vital business aspect and must take the necessary steps to make its presence felt in the market.
The Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir is one of the largest fruit producing States in the country and Government has been making all out efforts to tap its optimal potential. He called upon the JKHPMC functionaries to double their efforts to boost the activities and promote the State’s fruit products in a big way.
The Minister also reviewed the Action Taken Report of the decisions taken in the various Board meetings. Several proposals to revive the sick units, consolidation of Corporation assets, expanding cold storage and sale outlet network etc were suggested during the meeting.
