JAMMU, May 30: Diane Miller, Regional English Language Officer (RELO), US Embassy, New Delhi, visited Model Academy School to attend the closing ceremony of the English Access Micro-scholarship Programme.
The U S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs funds the two year programme in India and around the world.
It provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 13-20 year-old from economically disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive sessions.
Nearly 100 students from Model Academy were a part of this programme. During the two years students learnt about American society and culture, democratic values and attended field trips to enhance their experience.
Ms. Diane was accompanied by Rachna Sharma, Coordinator Access Programme, India. Rupa Gupta, Management Representative, Usha Gadoo, officiating Principal and Access teachers were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER presented welcome address.
Ms. Diane presented the certificates to the students and congratulated them for their efforts.
She encouraged them to continue learning and acquiring English language skills and hoped that they would give back to their communities by helping the less fortunate ones.
The Access students conducted the entire event.
