Govt to provide centres to domestic violence victims

Srinagar, June 1: Government today said a multidimensional approach will be taken to rehabilitate victims of domestic violence and one stop centre will be created where apart from shelter, boarding and lodging, legal aid and psychological assistance will also be provided.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Anjum Fazli in Lower House, Minister Incharge Social Welfare said the Government has already kept a provision for shelter homes for the victims of domestic violence in pursuance of the J&K Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2010.
“There are 12 Nari-Niketans existing in the State providing free boarding, lodging, education, health care facilities, etc. to female orphans and all other destitute women across the State”, the Minister said. In her supplementary, Anjum Fazli suggested that more than health care and shelter the domestic victims need empathy.
In reply, the Minister said: “We are taking a multidimensional approach and are planning to develop one stop centre wherein apart from shelter, boarding and lodging, legal aid and physiological assistance will also be provided to the victims.”
