JAMMU, May 25: BJP today accused the State Government of its total failure in providing relief to earthquake hit victims of erstwhile Doda district.
Thousands of people have been affected by the quake in Doda district which was also shook by many tremors of low intensity since the first quake which hit the area last month, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma along with Legislative party leader Ashok Khajuria, MLAs Choudhary Sukhnandan and Choudhary Sham told reporters here today.
He said the quake victims are passing their nights in the open due to failure of Government to provide proper relief to them.
He said a large number of houses were totally damaged by the quake, in Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah besides thousands of houses developed cracks. The Government representatives visiting the area make announcements but have failed to do any thing on ground to provide succor to these hapless people, he added.
He said the plight of these people is very bad and they continue to sleep under open sky during night due to threat. Although the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ministers and MLAs of State Coalition made aerial visits of the area, made pleasing announcements and assured all possible help but the affected people are still awaiting for ration and tents.
Mr Sharma who along with other party MLAs visited the quake hit area and interacted with people there said that only two tents are allotted per Panchayat while the estimated number of affected families is 80,000. Moreover the tents issued to Panchayats are also issued to the workers of NC and Congress after the slips for the same are issued by Ministers and MLAs, he added.
He said the local administration is also looking as mute spectator to the sufferings of the people.
The BJP MLAs have demanded immediate relief to the affected people. They urged the Government to clarify what sort of package it has announced for them instead of befooling them on slogans and false promises.
