Govt forms committee to examine RTI Act

JAMMU, Nov 28: Government today accorded sanction to the constitution of a committee to examine the issues relating to Right to Information (RTI) Act.
According to the order, the committee will be chaired by Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD) while Administrative Secretary of Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, representative of the Finance Department (Not below the rank of Additional Secretary to the Government) and Additional Secretary to Government, GAD (Administration) shall act as members of the committee. Moreover, the Chairman of the Committee may co-opt one other member.
The Committee will examine whether the UT of J&K will come under the purview of the Central Information Commission or a separate Commission has to be constituted for UT of J&K. Besides any other incidental issues, the Committee will also spell out the actions required to be taken like re-designation of PIOs and other functionaries under the Act, in case the UT of J&K comes under Central Information Commission.
As per the order, the Committee shall be serviced by the GAD and it shall submit its report by December 26, 2019.
