JAMMU, Jan 29: Government is bringing new law for protection, conservation and development of fisheries in the State.
Introducing J&K Fisheries Bill in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister for Fisheries Abdul Ghani Kohli said, “the existing J&K Fisheries Act, 1960 Svt (1903 AD) is more than 114 years old as such has become obsolete giving need for a new bill for protection, conservation and development of fisheries in the State”.
The new law will effectively prohibit destruction of fish by explosive and by poisoning of water, the Minister said, adding “under the new law the Government will have the powers to declare waters as sanctuaries, trout waters, reserved waters and protected waters”.
Under the new law, no person will carry on fishing in any trout waters, reserved waters and protected waters without obtaining a license from the Licensing Officer.
