JAMMU, Nov 5: All J&K Goods Carrier Association has asked the Government to compensate the truckers for the losses during 2008 agitation in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Despite repeated assurance by the Government to look into the problems of transporters and truck operators, nothing has been done in this regard,” alleged Jeet Singh, president of the Association, while talking to media persons here today.
Listing others demands, which include stopping pilferage of kerosene oil in the market of Srinagar and its subsequent use as fuel in trucks, improvement of Transport Nagar roads and sanitation conditions there, he lamented that the Government was giving a deaf ear to their issues and grievances.
The Association president also alleged harassment to the transporters at RTO office due to in-efficient working and mismanagement there. “Huge deduction from freight at Srinagar in the name of labour unloading by Srinagar parties is another problem but no action is being taken by the concerned authorities to redress our grievance”, he said.
Stating that All J&K Goods Carrier Association was providing hundred percent transportation services to Trade, Industries, big contractors, Government and semi-Government Departments for the last 30 years, the Association general secretary Ajab Singh alleged that a group of persons having political patronage were trying to monopolise the union and create hurdles in free movement of trucks.
“We appeal the Government to refrain these persons from monopolizing the trade and creating problems in smooth running of our Association business,” he said and feared that any hurdle by these persons would create law and order problem.
