SRINAGAR, July 18: With the process of cleaning on, once dead, Gilsar Lake in Srinagar, the migratory birds have made their return to the water body after remaining away from it for years.
The scenes of the migratory birds enjoying the beauty captured in a video were shared by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Aijaz Assad on Twitter while expressing the hope of witnessing the rebirth of famous Fish and Nadroo.
“Here is really an exciting news. Migratory birds return as Gilsar Lake is unearthed, dredged and cleaned. The Bird Gil can be seen dancing on restored waters of the Lake after nearly 3 decades,” reads the caption of the video shared by the DC, adding, “Great hope for rebirth of famous Fish & Nadroo (Lotus Rhizome).”
It is to be noted here that the process of cleaning the water bodies in Srinagar was taken up solely by the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO) in February this year. The adjacent Khushal Sar has been cleaned by the NLCO with the help of the Divisional Administration and other Government departments while the process continues on the Gilsar.
