GCPF asserts for review of existing reservation policy

JAMMU, Jan 11: General Category People’s Forum (GCPF) Jammu has demanded total review of existing reservation policy so that its benefit may be reaped by deserving families of all castes and religions.
The issue camp up for discussion during a meeting of the Forum held today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, chairman of Forum, wherein various issues confronting General Category people were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, Yash Paul Sanson, president of the Forum strongly condemned the neglect and suppression of General Category people which included Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and others by political leadership, denying them their legitimate share in socio-economic and political spheres through illegal continuation of reservation without any review and restricting the application of fundamental rights of majority community.
Sanson urged upon the Government of India to undertake legal measures for restoring a place of equality, justice and dignity to all citizens by abolishing reservation and by removing the restrictions imposed on the application of fundamental rights. He demanded equal rights and equal laws for all citizens and asked the Government of India for consistent endeavours to protect and promote the welfare of the poor, needy and deserving families of all caste and religions.
VK Sharma, vice-president of the Forum said that continuation of reservation means continuation of caste based discrimination for fear of losing votes. He lashed out at the Government and political parties for step-motherly treatment with General Category people.
Bhushan Pargal, Deepak Khajuria, Dr Bansi Lal, Gopal Dass Verma and Jagdish Dogra appealed the Government to safeguard the interest of common masses. The participants unanimously demanded that Government of India should formulate economic and social policies based on the principle of equality, justice and dignity.
