SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Ski resort of Gulmarg and North Kashmir’s mountains received season’s fresh after western disturbances hit Valley today.
Around six inches of snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg and other hilly areas of North Kashmir.
Director Met Department Sonam Lotus said here that the temperature in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir will drop by four to five degrees due to the western disturbance.
“A weak Western Disturbance, originating in Arabian Sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan hit the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region today. This could result in light snowfall on upper heights, including upper reaches of world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Gumri, Sonamarg and areas near the Line of Control (LoC)”, said Lotus.
“However, there is no possibility of rain or snowfall in the plains”, Lotus said. He said last year Kashmir received first snowfall on December 13.
Lotus said that weather will improve by tomorrow.
People in the Ladakh region continued to shiver at minus 11.4 degree minimum temperature at Leh while Kargil recorded minus 4.8 degree.
A Met Department spokesman said the people in the summer capital, Srinagar, continued to shiver during the night though there was some improvement in the minimum temperature. Against yesterdays minus 2.1 degree, it was minus 1.4 degree, again 0.4 degree below normal.
