Announcing this while addressing a press conference here today, Madan Magotra (Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu) said, the campaign will be aimed ensuring compliance with respect to limits of Trans Fatty Acids, labeling provisions and mandatory AGMARK license for Multi Source Edible Vegetable Oils (MSEO) including vanaspati and enforcement of prohibition of sale of loose edible oil.
Magotra said the decision to start this campaign has been taken as it was noticed at FSSAI level that there are instances of sale/manufacturing of adulterated edible oils as well as unauthorized blending of oils without the mandatory AGMARK license. The department wants to ensure the availability of safe and whole- some food to the people of J&K, he asserted.
The Deputy Commissioner said the surveillance campaign will be run under overall supervision of Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration of J&K, Shakeel-Ul-Rehman Rather. He stated that the efforts shall be made to cover all the brands of edible oils during the campaign and the samples shall be forwarded to laboratories (notified by the FSSAI) for testing.
In case of non-compliance cases of surveillance, the regulatory samples shall be lifted immediately and sent for testing, he added.
