Farmers demand relief for damaged wheat crop

UDHAMPUR, Mar 19: Farmers have demanded relief as recent heavy rains badly damaged their standing wheat crop in the fields.
“Due to recent heavy snowfall and rains, 23 kanal land slid from the actual position, which damaged the agricultural fields and the standing crop,” said Lehar Singh, Ravi Singh, Sardar Singh and others.
Even as a team of Tehsil Ramnagar administration had visited the affected area and assured compensation against the damaged crop as early as possible, there was no further action except assurances, they said.
The affected farmers have demanded personal intervention by the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur for early release of claim in their favour. They also urged the DC for construction of a protection wall at the land sliding area for avoiding further damage and any loss of life.
