Farmers demand compensation for damaged paddy crop

JAMMU, Dec 6:   A large number of Kissans from Suchetgarh and RS Pura constituencies gathered at the residence of senior Congress leader, Ch Gharu Ram former minister and chairman All J&K Kissan Congress at RS Pura today and expressed their anguish over the destruction of Basmati (Paddy crop) due to hailstorms and rains resulting into 100% loss of ready produce.
They further stated that the Govt had promised to double their input costs of crops but the rates fixed for the purchase of paddy are less than their input cost. They alleged that the Govt has not provided any purchase centre in R S Pura and no Government authority has visited to estimate the losses for compensation. There is great resentment amongst the farmers.
While addressing the Kissans, Ch Gharu Ram alleged that present Govt has failed to fulfil its promises of providing double income to the farmers who are at the verge of starvation. No assessment of losses have been worked out till now for giving them adequate compensation. He assured them that he will take up the matter with the concern authority for fulfilling the above given demands immediately.
Other Kissan leaders  and Youth Congress activists who addressed the large gathering included- Neeraj Choudhary, District president Jammu (R) Pradesh Youth Congress, Lalita Sharma vice chairperson Kissan Congress RS Pura,  S. Bachan Singh Chairman, Kissan Congress RS Pura, Romesh kumar General Secretary RS Pura, Sewa Ram, Sher Singh, K K Bhagat, Naresh Singh, Kari Singh, Nagar Singh, Bishan Dass, Des Raj and others.
