JAMMU, Mar 23: An awareness session on human organ donation was organized today by State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K in Government Nursing College, Gandhi Nagar.
Students were made aware of the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP) being implemented by SOTTO J&K at Superspeciality Hospital GMC Jammu and also cadaveric donation procedure. They were informed about the legal procedure involved in organ donation. Many participants pledged to become organ donors. Stories of organ donors were also shared to motivate them.
Anshu Sharma (IEC and Media Consultant) and Nisha Kumari (Programme Assistant) were the resource persons from SOTTO. Students were informed that someone, who was brain dead in the hospital due to some brain injury, brain hemorrhage or some other reason, his/her organs and tissues issues still remain alive and could save up to many lives if family agreed for donation.
Students organized an exhibition of models of different organs and highlighted the need of organ donation in India. Poonam Paul (Incharge Principal, Government Nursing College) motivated everyone to vow to donate their organs after life. More than 40 students also pledged organs for donation during the event.
