Ex-Minister, 36 IT Deptt officials, 26 Women College staffers among 2045 test +ve in Jammu

Among 4 COVID victims, 3 die at home, another at Srinagar
55 in one village found infected in Samba district

JAMMU, Jan 24: A former Minister, 36 officials of the Income Tax Department, 26 staff members of Government Women College Udhampur, 38 from District Hospital Reasi and 14 from District Hospital Udhampur today tested positive for COVID-19 as Jammu region crossed 2000 daily cases while four persons succumbed to the virus, three of them at home.
Health officials told the Excelsior that 36 officials of the Income Tax Department at Jammu have tested positive for the virus. Majority of them were asymptomatic.
Former Minister and senior BJP leader Bali Bhagat and his two kin tested positive for Coronavirus. Condition of the BJP leader and family members is stable.
Twenty six staff members of the Government Women College Udhampur were found infected during random sampling by the Health Department. They have been asked to isolate themselves at their houses as most of them were asymptomatic. All of them were stable.
Thirty eight persons at the District Hospital Reasi and 14 at the District Hospital Udhampur were found infected with viral infection during testing by the Health Department.
Fifty five villagers at Bainglar in Samba district were found positive for pathogen during random sampling in the village, the Health officials said.
Seven more personnel of CID office, four at Police station Domana and two at Raj Bhawan Jammu also tested positive for COVID-19.
Thirty eight pilgrims of holy cave shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji today tested positive for the virus during their random testing on arrival at Katra Railway Station.
Among four COVID casualties in Jammu division, three persons succumbed to ailments and virus at their houses. Three casualties occurred in Jammu district and one in Ramban.
A 65-year-old man hailing from Gurha Brahamana in Akhnoor, 85-year-old male from Sidhra and 80-year-old from Buta Nagar in Janipura, all in Jammu district died of certain ailments and COVID-19 at their homes and were later shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. The deceased from Buta Nagar was fully vaccinated while COVID victim from Sidhra was unvaccinated. Vaccination status of Gurha Brahamana man were not known.
A 21-year-old youth belonging to village Maitra in Ramban district, who was co-morbid but fully vaccinated, died at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar where he was under treatment.
Among 2045 fresh COVID positive cases in Jammu division today, 1204 were reported from Jammu district, 234 in Udhampur, 187 Doda. 121 Ramban, 99 Reasi, 71 Samba, 40 each in Rajouri and Kishtwar districts, 34 Kathua and 15 in Poonch district.
As against 2045 cases, 1732 persons recovered from the virus taking number of active positive cases in Jammu division to 13542.
Jammu region now has 1,47,998 Corona cases. Of them, 1,32,203 have recovered from the virus while there were 2253 casualties.
The casualties include 1187 in Jammu district, 243 Rajouri, 158 Kathua, 143 Udhampur, 139 Doda, 120 Samba, 104 Poonch, 69 Ramban and 45 each in Kishtwar and Reasi districts.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today recorded 159 fresh COVID positive cases including 148 in Leh and 11 in Kargil district.
Ladakh now has 1255 active positive cases—1044 in Leh district and 211 in Kargil.
Corona count in Ladakh stood at 24655. Of them, 23178 have been treated while there were 222 COVID fatalities—164 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
