Ex-Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, 3 others found guilty of corruption

NEW DELHI, Dec 13:
CBI Special Judge Bharat Parasher on Wednesday found guilty of corruption former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and three others in a case related to the post-2007 allocation of the state’s Rajhara North coal block to Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Ltd (Visul).
The quantum of punishment will be announced on Thursday. Central Bureau of Investigation had alleged that Madhu Koda, former Coal Secretary HC Gupta, the then Jharkhand Chief Secretary AK Basu and others conspired to favour Visul in allocation of the coal block and in December, 2014, filed a charge sheet against them.
On July 14, 2015, the Judge took cognizance of alleged offences under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servants) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Charges were framed on July 31, 2015, against Koda and others.
After hearing arguments on behalf of the prosecution and defence counsel, Judge Parasher held guilty Koda, Gupta, then AK Basu, among others. (UNI)
