JAMMU, Feb 16: The casual and daily wage workers of Estates department held strong protest in support of their main demand of regularization here today.
The casual workers of Estates Department are sitting on hunger strike at main office in Gandhinagar. They are demanding their regularization and release of timely salary. They raised slogans against the higher authorities in the department and also in their favour.
Several trade union leaders including Purshotam Lal and Mukhtiyar Ahmed Wani addressed the gathering.
They pointed out that they were engaged as casual/skilled/semi-skilled workers through a Cabinet decision No. 59/5 dated 4-4-2003 in relaxation to ban imposed by Govt in Feb 2001. The Finance department provided funds for the wages within the purview of Cabinet order. But unfortunately, till date their services were not regularized and even not being paid in time by the authorities.
These workers are now sitting on day and night hunger strike and demanding their regularization. They warned to intensify their struggle in near future if Govt remained unconcerned over the issue.
