Srinagar/ Jammu, Sept 29: The Employees Joint Action Committee president and Senior JCC leader, Abdul Qayoomn Wani today said that the employees will go ahead with their strike programme from October 1 to 5 against the Government’s failure to fulfil their demands.
The EJAC today held an emergency meeting of its central, Provincial and district leaders in which the entire leadership was determined to face what they said the unjustified threats by the State Government.
Wani said that the leaders at the helm in the Government behave as ‘Sultans’ and treat more than 4 lakh employees as slaves.
“Our demands are genuine and the Government acknowledged the same many a times. We are striving for our demands in a democratic way and we will never quit. We have been given warnings in past but these cautions are not going to deliver anything,” he said.
The EJAC leaders accused the Government of not fulfilling the agreement reached with the employees on September 15, 2011 and again ratified on July 8, 2012.
A statement issued by EJAC said that the employees have been waiting and believing the Government since 2011 but the Government dodged.
“The EJAC leadership has been compelled to protest owing to long delaying tactics of the Government. It was noted since Government employment is the mainstay of economy in Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, inflicting injustices on the employees the Government is showing openly in anti employee bias. In the last meeting of the JCC leaders with sub Cabinet committee, Abdul Qayoom Wani and other JCC leaders impressed upon them to fulfill the agreement of September 15, 2011 in letter and spirit but it didn’t”, the statement said.
“The employees are the real eyes, ears and arms of the Government on the ground level with whom, the present Government is at war course to the discomfiture of the people also. The entire leadership unanimously decided that then protest programme from Oct 1st to 5th shall be adhere to with great determination and success”, the statement added.
The leaders who participated in the meeting included Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam, Farooq Ahmad Trali, Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, Haji Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Nusrat Ahmad Beigh, Khalid Mehmood Khan, Farooq Ahmad Khan, Dr Manzoor Ahmad, Gulam Mohammad Hamdard.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of Joint Consultative Committee of J&K Govt. employees held at Jammu under the presidium of Kulwant Singh, Amrik Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, Shahid Hussain, Rajinder Kumar and Maulvi Munir Hussain and others.
The meeting took strong exception to the ambiguity and indifferent attitude of the State Govt. to betrayal of the written agreement between the Govt. and representative of JCC on September 15, 2011 and July 8, 2012 in which the Govt. sought time upto September 30, 2012 but it miserably failed to settle the issues amicably even after one complete year and compelling the employees community to resort to an agitation.
The Govt. is backing out from its commitment and assurances to frame fool proof policy about regularization of daily rated, seasonal, contractual and casual workers. But it has been observed that at the grave betrayal the Govt. authorities have done nothing to address the problems of the workers.
The Govt. assured that committees have been framed for enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years and for removal of pay anomalies of clerical cadre and grade of 6500 – 10500 and for budgetary support to the public sector under taking employees, so far the loss to PSU occurred due to mismanagement of politicians but no final settlement is seen.
JCC leadership appealed to all section of employees of State to observe strike programme from October 1 to 5, 2013.
