Srinagar, July 30: The Kashmir Youth Electrical Contractors Association (KYECA) today staged a protest alleging that the tenders that have been issued by the KPDCL have rendered them ineligible from participating in the tendering process.
Scores of contractors under the banner of KYECA appeared in the Press Enclave and were heard raising slogans against the authorities for side-lining them under what they termed as a well-thought-out plan while demanding immediate cancellation of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
“KPDCL has issued tenders of Rs 200-300 crores and to participate in the tendering process, we need to have a monthly turn-over of nearly Rs 5-6 crore, which we do not have and even if we come together to achieve that, we will not succeed,” Ubaid Ahmad, Secretary KYECA said.
He said that if they are side-lined and are not able to participate in the process, they along with the family members of nearly 50, 000 people will have to suffer. “It is going to severely impact us as well as those associated with us; we demand that the RDSS scheme should be cancelled without any delay,” he said, adding that the retired officers are acting as sleeping partners and the entire process is a scam.
Another protestor, Bilal Ahmad said that the tenders that have been issued are ranging from Rs 200-500 crores, and as per the eligibility criteria, they stand nowhere.
“We don’t exist there. The self-employed structure of J&K is being demolished under certain conspiracies.  The RDSS scheme should be cancelled and the tendering process should be the same as it was earlier,” he said.
