JAMMU, Aug 9: Like other parts of the country, Eid-ul-Fitr marking the culmination of fasting month of Ramdhan was celebrated in Jammu region with religious fervour, and gaiety today.
However due to the heavy down pour in the morning, the Eid prayers could not be offered as usual in Eidgah near Residency Road and the venue of Namaz was shifted to newly constructed mosque at Talab Khatinkan.
A large number of Muslims attired in white dress performed Eid Namaz in the mosque. They were led by local Imam of the mosque in performing the Eid prayers.
Later the Imam highlighted the significance of the Eid-ul-Fitr which is celebrated in connection with culmination of holy month of Ramdhan in which the Muslims keep fast for 30 days for self control.
He also highlighted the teachings of Islam and said it teaches peace, brotherhood and love.
Eid prayers were also held at other mosques of the city including Kachi Chawni mosque, mosque at Tawi bridge, Talab Tillo, Bhatindi, Sunjwan and other parts of the city. The local Imams who led the devotees in Eid Namaz highlighted the significance of the fasting month of Ramdhan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
Reports coming from other parts of the regions aid that thousands of Muslims thronged the local mosques to offer special Eid prayers today.
At Poonch and Rajouri towns the Eid Namaz was performed at local Jama Masjids by the Muslims. At Mendhar thousands of Muslims participated in Eid prayers at Jama Masjid. Moulana Mohammed Ayub Nakashbandi led them in offering prayers.
Led by Moulana Noor Alam Noori, a large number of Muslims offered Eid prayers at Harni Mendhar.
Despite heavy down pour Eid prayers were also offered at Udhampur, Bani, Bhaderwah, Doda, Banihal and other parts of the region.
