JAMMU, July 6: Like other parts of the State the Eid-ul -Fitr was celebrated with  religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu region today.
Thousands of Muslims thronged the various Eidgahs and mosques this morning to offer Eid Namaz which was followed by exchanging the Eid greetings and pleasantries.
In Jammu biggest congregation was held at Eidgah Residency Road Jammu where about 8000 to 10,000 people belonging to Muslim community attired in white dresses offered Eid Namaz early this morning. Due to the heavy downpour of the morning Eid prayers were delayed by some time.
To keep the secular traditions and values alive members of Hindu, Sikh and Christian communities were seen greeting their Muslim brethren on the occasion. The people hugged each other and exchanged Eid greetings and pleasantries.
Other congregations were held at Malik market Narwal, Macca Masjid Bhatindi and Eidgah Sidhra where large number of Muslims offered Eid prayers.
Besides, special Eid prayers were held at Eidgah Firdosabad Sunjwa, Eidgah Digiana,  Jamia Masjid Khatinka Talab, Jamia Masjid Ustad Mohalla and other mosques of Jammu.
The children were seen busy in kite flaying and other fun games during the day. Some were busy in seeking Eidi from their parents and elders in their families.
The Government had made elaborate arrangements for Eid celebration all over the region. The religious scholars who participated in Eid prayers at Eidgah residency road this morning told reporters that Eid is the festival of joy and entertainment. It teaches humanity, brotherhood, peace, love and fellow feeling.
In Rajouri district the biggest Eid congregation was held at Eidgah Rajouri where a large number of Muslims offered Eid prayers. Eid prayers were also offered at Eidgahs of Thanamandi, Darhal, Manjakote, Koteranka, Budhal, Kalakote and Nowshera.
Eid was also celebrated with great enthusiasm in Poonch district where thousands of Muslims offered Eid Namaz in various Eidgahs around the district.
The main congregation was held at Eidgah Poonch where from 20,000 to 25,000 Muslims offered Eid prayers. The Imam of the mosque while delivering sermons said that Islam teaches peace, brotherhood and love. He said violence and terrorism has no place in Islam and strongly condemned the Madina terror attack.
Prominent among those who offered Eid prayers at Eidgah Poonch included Shah Mohammed Tantry, MLA Poonch.
Minister of Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga who was in Poonch greeted the members of Muslim community along with other Hindu and Sikh brethren on the occasion.
In Mendhar tehsil Eid prayers were held at Jama Masjid Mendhar, Jama Masjid Harini, Imam Bargah Sangala Chowk Mendhar and Baba Mastan Shah Shrine.
Eid prayers were held in different mosques and Eidgahs at Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal, Doda, Thatri, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Inderwal, Reasi, Bani, Basohli, Billawar, Gool Arnas etc.
In Kathua town main function was held at Eidgah Kathua besides Eid prayers were held in PTC Kathua, Mianchak and Janglote.
