JAMMU, Nov 23: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh has decided to boycott tomorrow’s review meeting of the District Development Board (DDB) Srinagar following differences with Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Dr Drabu had released about Rs 10 crores grant for workshops repairing transformers directly in favour of the companies instead of routing it through the Power Development Department (PDD), held by Dr Singh.
As per the practice, the Finance Department had to release funds in favour of the PDD, which had to make further payments to the workshops repairing the damaged transformers of the PDD.
However, in this case, the Finance Department, headed by Drabu, directly made the payments, thus, bypassing the PDD Ministry.
“As a mark of protest, the Deputy Chief Minister has decided not to attend review meeting of the DDB Srinagar, scheduled to be held tomorrow under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,’’ sources said.
They added that Dr Nirmal Singh has already brought the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister.
