JAMMU, Apr 8: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) has urged upon the Government to organize Jammu Festival, highlighting the culture and valour of Dogras and take up immediate measures to prevent the historic Mubarak Mandi complex from collapsing.
Addressing a press conference here today, DSS president Gulchain Singh Charak said Government should organize Jammu Festival to highlight the rich culture of Jammu region and the valour of the Dogras in a befitting manner.
Charak disclosed that they have decided to pay homage at the memorial of Raja Jambulochan and Balidan Stambh on 13th April and to hold a Kavi Sammelan on 14th April in connection with the Jammu Festival for which a detailed program has been worked out.
The DSS president said that the heritage structures in Mandi Mubarak Mandi, situated on the Tawi river side of the Complex, including the magnificent Gole Ghar and Rani Charaki’s Mahal, are in a precarious condition and may suffer irreparable damage during the coming monsoons unless immediate measures are taken for stabilizing of the slopes supporting these structures. He stressed that necessary funds need to be released to the concerned PWD(R&B) authorities on priority to ensure completion of this work before the onset of the monsoon season.
He further stated that while the pace of conservation work by the executing agencies on some of the heritage structures and palaces appeared to have picked up, work on some others was slow, which was required to be expedited. He emphasized that every effort needs to be made to ensure that the reported completion schedule of July 2021 of the conservation works presently in progress was adhered to.
Charak also emphasized that the adaptive reuse proposals in respect of all the heritage buildings taken up for conservation also need to be implemented simultaneously so that they can be put to use as soon as the work is completed.
