DRSC reviews working of Tourism Deptt

JAMMU, Dec 28: A meeting of Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-IV) of Legislative Council was held here today under the chairmanship of MLC, Vibodh Gupta to review the working of Tourism Department.
Legislators, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Dr. Shehnaz Ganai and Qaiser Jamsheed Lone attended the meeting and gave their suggestions to develop Tourism infrastructure in the State.
The meeting discussed various matters pertaining to the working of Tourism Development Authorities, steps taken to popularize new tourist destinations, promotion of pilgrim tourism and their future development, preservation of heritage buildings, status of TRCs and other Tourist Facilitation Centers.
The Committee also discussed the PM’s Package to develop tourism infrastructure in the State. Tourism Department was asked to share the DPRs in this regard so that additional inputs by the Committee members are also incorporated in the reports.
The Committee stressed on the need to improve basic infrastructure at Nuri Chhamb, Dubjan, Dera ki Gali, Peer Ki Gali, Bangus Valley, Mughal Sarai, Chingus Sarai,  Rajouri Fort, Dupchan, Sudh mahadev and Bani Basohli etc. The Committee also discussed status of various cable car projects and other projects taken in hand by the Tourism department.
The Committee stressed on Tourism authorities to complete all ongoing projects within the scheduled time.
Secretary, Tourism Department, Farooq Ahmed Shah apprised the committee about the functioning of the Tourism Department. He also briefed the Committee about the steps taken to implement the Rs 2000 crore PM’s Package for upgradation and development of tourism infrastructure.
Director Tourism, Jammu, CEOs from all Development Authorities besides senior officers of concerned department and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
