JAMMU, July 4: The body of a 22-year-old youth who had drowned last evening in Ranbir Canal near Patel Nagar, here, was fished out from the canal this morning.
According to a police spokesperson, Wasim-ul-Din (22) son of Qamer-ul-Din, a resident of Uttar Pradesh (at present Patel Nagar), had drowned last evening in the canal near Patel Nagar J&K Bank, where he had gone for taking a bath with some other youths of his locality.
As the deceased did not know swimming, he drowned in the canal. His companions and other people on the spot tried their best to rescue the youth but their all efforts failed and even the body of the deceased could not be located and evicted due to darkness.
His body could be fished out only this morning when the flow of the water in the canal was blocked from Akhnoor.
The dead body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites after completing all medico-legal formalities. The concerned police has already taken cognizance of the matter.
