JAMMU, Dec 28: Police arrested a driver along with heroin worth several thousands from Shastri Nagar area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station laid a naka in Shastri Nagar area near cremation ground and asked a pedestrian coming from Digiana side to Shastri Nagar to stop, as he was moving under suspicious circumstances.
On seeing police cops, the person tried to escape, but was chased and nabbed near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 5 grams heroin from the possession of the person and arrested him.
The accused, who is a driver by profession, has been identified as Inderpal Singh alias Lovely, son of Jasbir Singh, a resident of Nai Basti, Gandhi Nagar.
During questioning, the accused said that he brings the consignment of narcotics from neighbouring State and later sell it among the youths in Jammu especially living in Gandhi Nagar.
A case under FIR Number 310/15 under Section 8/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation of the case has been entrusted to Incharge Police Post Digiana SI Pawan Dogra, which is going on.
The arrest was made by police team headed by SHO Gandhi Nagar police station Inspector Bishnesh Kumar and ASI Om Parkash under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Shazaad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
