RAMBAN, Apr 10: Banihal police arrested a driver along with 400 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka at T-Chowk and signaled a truck bearing registration number PB32F-3855 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 400 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Rajinder Ram, son of Sodi Ram, a resident of Punjab.
The accused was trying to smuggle the consignment to his native area from Kashmir, but police foiled his bid by arresting him.
A case under FIR Number 34/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Mohammad Afzal Wani made the arrest under supervision of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
