Drive to inculcate cleanliness habit in people: Jitendra Singh

JAMMU, Oct 2: In connection with the nationwide cleanliness drive launched today, by Prime Minster Narendra Modi in Union Capital, Minister in PMO with independent charge of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh led cleanliness drive at different places in the Winter Capital here.
Dr Singh, who reached here early this morning led the cleanliness drives at three different places in the City of Temples. He straightway went to Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar and led a cleanliness drive started by Party activists under the guidance of BJP Prabhari Samba, Aseem Gupta.
Later Dr Singh visited Chatta Farm where he also participated in cleanliness drive launched in CSIR-IIM campus. He also participated in a cleanliness drive at Railway Station Jammu in which besides the Railway officers, employees and Railway Scouts and Guides, some BJP leaders and social activists also participated.
Speaking at Chatta Farm, Dr Jitendra Singh said Cleanliness Drive “Swachh Bharat’’ is aimed at creating awareness among the people of the country so that they inculcate a habit of keeping their surrounding clean.
He said the Centre has launched an initiative to metamorphose the nation for good and turn India into a neat and clean place where the scientific principles will be the basis of living.
The Minister said he started the cleanliness drive from his own Ministry “and in two days, we disposed of more than 60,000 files, some of the files had already been digitized and there was no need to preserve them,”.
He said the cleanliness drive should not be restricted to just being a “symbolic event”.
Talking about Jammu and Kashmir, Singh said after coming to power at the Centre, BJP has tried its best to remove the alleged regional bias among the two regions of the State.
“Now Jammu region too is getting various things from the Centre like the colour Doppler radar to predict weather was first installed in Jammu and then in Srinagar,” he said. Besides the IT park was established at Kathua first and then it will be established at Srinagar in Kashmir valley.
“We have 60 months to do the work that was not done in the past 60 years. We have done a lot in the past three months and now we are left with 57 more months. We want 60 more months, but it will depend on how much the people like our work,” Singh Said.
Paying tributes to father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, he said besides independence of the country, the clean India was the goal of his life. And former Jana Sangh president Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya was a great freedom fighter gave the concept of Anatodaya that benefit of democracy should reach to last man in the country. It was Deen Dayal who worked to take ideas of Gandhi Ji forward.
He said it was for the first time in the history of independent India, that the birth anniversaries of party leaders like Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deen Dyal Upadhaya were being observed.
“The Prime Minister did not want his life story to be included in text books, as we don’t want to force ourselves on the children. We want people to recognise our efforts and want themselves to read about us,” he said.
Later Dr Singh administered an oath to hundreds of school children and gathering on the occasion to dedicate themselves for keeping their surroundings clean by dedicating 100 hours in a year for this cause.
The Director IIIM, Jammu, Dr Ram Vishwakarma also spoke on the occasion and said that they have adopted the Chatta village to make it clean and provide other facilities to it.
BJP leaders Chander Mohan Sharma and Vikram Randhawa were also present on the occasion.
