NEW DELHI, Jan 2: Former Sadr-e-Riyasat and scion of erstwhile royal Dogra family, Dr Karan Singh was today conferred upon Honorary Degree of D Litt by Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, Rajasthan Sanskrit University, Jaipur.
Vice-Chancellor of the Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, Rajasthan Sanskrit University, Jaipur, Dr Anula Maurya personally visited Dr Karan Singh at Delhi and conferred the degree.
While thanking the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Karan Singh stressed on the importance of Sanskrit in our cultural, intellectual and religious tradition. He wished that as many state as possible should set up Sanskrit Universities so that this great national heritage can be sustained and promoted.
Dr Karan Singh recalled that in 1967, when he first joined the Parliament, he had set up the Sansadiya Sanskrit Samiti, which made some useful suggestions which were accepted by the Indira Gandhi Government. These included the observation of Sanskrit Divas every year on Raksha Bandhan day and new broadcast in Sanskrit on Akashwani, which continue down to the present day.
