NEW DELHI, Mar 24 : Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has lauded the Union Territory government of Jammu & Kashmir for its decision to start COVID Sanitorium, which he said, is a more effective way of ensuring isolation and quarantine.
He also noted that the J&K government was among the first to have heeded the suggestion of the Centre to State and UT governments to set up dedicated COVID-19 Hospitals.
The concept of Sanitorium management, recalled Dr Jitendra Singh, dated back to the times when tuberculosis was rampant in India and effective anti-tubercular drugs were not easily available. Particularly, he said, till the 1950s, 60s and 70s, this was a common practice in India and we had some of the world’s finest Sanitorium set ups in India, including the one at Tambaram, near Chennai, where incidentally he had himself worked as a Junior Resident.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, he had put across the suggestion for setting up exclusive Sanitorium for Covid management several weeks ago and he was glad that it was coming through. He said, the Union Territory government of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly the Lieutenant Governor, Advisor Health and Financial Commissioner (Health) deserve special appreciation for taking a lead in this regard.
Pertinent to mention that the government of Jammu & Kashmir has decided to start exclusive Covid Sanitorium to treat suspected patients. To begin with, in the Kashmir region, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, CD Hospital Srinagar, Rainawari Hospital Srinagar and Police Hospital Srinagar , while in Jammu, to begin with, Gandhi Nagar hospital and Psychiatric hospital in Jammu will be used for this purpose. In Government Medical College Jammu also, certain sections may be exclusively carved out for the purpose.
Dr Jitendra Singh also hailed the Corporate Medical Sector, particularly the management of ASCOMS Batra Hospital in Jammu and Naraina Hospital in Katra for having offered to carve out 100 beds and 50 beds space respectively, for the purpose of a dedicated COVID management.
