JAMMU, Mar 24: Amid lockdown in view of Coronavirus threat when the civilian movement is restricted barring essential services and essential commodities, a local NGO has come forward to help and provide meal to the needy especially the ‘daily wagers’ living in small ‘basties’ here.
The NGO namely ‘D-Mark Coaching Centre’ run by Roma along with her family and limited staff members, is identifying the locations like slums, ‘jhuggies’, where these ‘daily wagers’ (vendors, rehariwalas, door to door sellers) are residing and delivering cooked meals in this odd hours.
The NGO members cook meals at their office and after packing them in small disposable containers, distribute them to these people. “Due to lockdown, these people, who earn their livings on daily basis, could not move out,” says Ms Roma.
She said that sometimes it becomes difficult for many to have one meal, adding, “with the help of family and friends, we identify such locations and after packing food in boxes, distribute among them.”
“We do not share our address with them but instead contact number because on one hand when stress is being laid on social distancing in view of COVID-19, we cannot afford people to assemble in large outside our office, so we decided to reach out people and provide meals to them at their doorsteps,” said the NGO head.
